TBRC (Top Blown Rotary Converter) furnace supplied by Metalcess is a high deficiency equipment for the recovery of precious metal like Au, Ag, and PGMs (Pt, Pd, Rh, etc.) from PCB recycling and spent auto catalyst (catalytic converter) recycling. As a PCB and catalyst pyrometallurgy refining equipment, comparing with hydrometallurgy PCB recycling process, TBRC furnace can produce 90% less waste water and has high recovery rate: Copper recovery rate ≥ 98%, precious metal recovery rate > 99%. Smelting, converting and refining reaction can be carried out inside one single furnace. Metalcess is a certificated China new high-tech enterprise in metallurgy industry.
The Top Blown Rotary Converter (TBRC furnace) is a tiltable and rotatable oxygen-blowing metallurgical furnace. It is a highly efficient metallurgical reaction equipment, with which smelting, converting and refining reaction can be carried out inside one single furnace.
The TBRC furnace has a wide adaptability to raw materials and is mainly used for the smelting, converting and refining of non-ferrous metals such as copper, lead, and nickel, including low-grade waste and mixed copper and the recycling of secondary resources of precious metal like Au, Ag, and Platinum Group Metals, PGMs (Pt, Pd, Rh, etc.) from PCB(waste circuit boards) and spent auto catalysts (catalytic converters).
It combines the top-blowing oxygen injection technology with the rotating function of the furnace body, significantly enhancing the metal recovery rate and energy utilization efficiency through intensified stirring of the molten pool and oxidation reaction efficiency.
The TBRC furnace (Top Blown Rotary Converter) mainly consists of the following components:
Top blowning oxygen lance system: A multi-functional lance installed on the top of the furnace, used for injecting high-purity oxygen (or enriched air), and integrated with fuel injection function to achieve thermal compensation inside the furnace.
Rotary drive device: Drives the furnace body to rotate slowly (at a speed of usually 0.5 to 15 RPM) through gears or hydraulic systems, promoting uniform mixing of the melt.
Slag discharge and tapping ports: Equipped with channels for the separation and discharge of liquid metal and slag, supporting continuous or intermittent operation.

High recovery rate: Copper recovery rate ≥ 98%, precious metal recovery rate > 99%
Environmental friendliness: High-temperature oxidation smelting reduces the generation of volatile organic compounds and is equipped with an integrated flue gas treatment system to effectively control dioxin and heavy metal pollution.
Strong adaptability to raw materials: It can handle raw materials with low Copper content, complex composition, and those containing precious metals.
Low production cost: Oxygen-enriched self-heating smelting reaction requires no extra fuel addition, saving fuel costs. For precious metal recycling from PCB and catalyst, comparing with hydrometallurgy PCB recycling method, produce 90% less waste water. The waste water treatment cost would be much lower.

Precious metal containing waste recycling: Electronic waste (PCB), precious metal-containing waste residues, and precious metal such as Ag, Au, and Platinum Group Metals, PGMs (Pt, Pd, Rh, etc.) recovery from catalysts. For electronic waste, the TBRC process for treating waste circuit boards is an high efficient pyrometallurgical technology, especially suitable for the treatment of complex electronic waste containing precious metals. Waste circuit boards are directly or after crushing fed into the furnace.
Scrap copper recycling: TBRC for Copper scrap not only has a high metal recovery rate but is also environmentally friendly. It can handle scrap copper with copper content ranging from 15% to 95%, demonstrating wide adaptability. Scrap copper does not require pre-treatment and can be directly fed into the furnace, with flexible control over the oxidation and reduction atmosphere. The process consists of five key steps: charging, smelting, slagging, converting, and copper tapping, all of which are carried out in an orderly manner within a single furnace. Ultimately, it can produce 98-99% crude copper.
Copper smelting: Direct production of crude copper from copper concentrate (replacing traditional flash smelting furnaces or PS converters).
Nickel and cobalt extraction: Enrichment and smelting of laterite nickel ores or sulfide nickel ores.
